Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Moe is a big, lovable cat with a larger-than-life presence and a serious appreciation for treats. Food-motivated and full of personality, he enjoys snack time and isn’t shy about expressing his enthusiasm - sometimes with a playful little nibble at your fingers. Full of love to give, he’ll be a fun, rewarding companion with plenty of charm!
Moe is FIV positive, which is an immunodeficiency virus specific to cats only. FIV doesn’t stop cats from living a happy, long life! FIV+ cats do best as indoor pets and, like any cat, should see a vet for routine check ups annually. FIV is spread to other felines through deep bite wounds, so if you have a cat at home already, they should be friendly with other cats like Moe is! It cannot be spread to humans, dogs, or any other species.
FIV typically does not affect a cat's lifespan. As long as you're not exposing them to viruses (i.e. you won't want to foster sick kittens if one of your cats is FIV+), many cats live most of their life completely symptom free. If you've owned cats in the past, especially cats who were formerly strays, it's very possible you owned an FIV+ cat and didn't even know it!
FIV+ cats are more likely to develop tooth problems, which can be costly, Many cats regardless of FIV status end up with various tooth problems and will need extractions sometime during their life, but we see that being more common in FIV+ cats. While we don't want to discourage anyone from adopting Moe, tooth extractions, as well as any other medical treatments he could need in the future, can add up, and any potential adopter should be aware of the increased likelihood of those costs!
