Meet Brutus: The 70‑lb Baby With the World’s Cutest Ears
Do you believe in gentle giants?
Do you believe a dog can be both massive and also a marshmallow?
Do you believe one pup can single‑pawedly carry around every toy in a room?
If so… Brutus is ready to be your guy.
Brutus is a 1‑year‑old, 70‑pound sweetheart with the softest soul and the biggest heart (and possibly the biggest ears). Don’t let his size fool you—Brutus is truly a big baby wrapped in fur. He came to the shelter as a puppy and was sadly returned when his family didn’t expect him to grow into, well… Brutus-sized. But this lovable Scooby‑look‑alike never let that dull his shine.
This toy‑obsessed goofball lives for playtime. Balls, squeakies, plushies—you name it, he’ll proudly carry it around like his prize treasure. And if you’re impressed easily? Perfect. Brutus LOVES showing off his favorites.
He’s a total social butterfly and has a blast romping around with other dogs. Playgroups? Yes please. Friends? Even better. Toys in playgroups? Peak happiness.
Brutus is also very clear about one thing:
👉 He knows his name.
👉 He loves his name.
👉 He would like to keep his name.
(We respect the king’s wishes.)
All Brutus wants now is a loving, active family with a fenced yard where he can zoom, play, trot with his toys, and hang out with his humans. He cannot wait to bring laughter, cuddles, and some serious ear‑flop action into his forever home.
If you’re ready for joy, goofiness, loyalty, and a whole lot of love, apply now and make Brutus your new best buddy.
Scooby‑fans, gentle‑giant lovers, and toy collectors—your dog has arrived.

More about this rescue
Fetching Hearts Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer run rescue that is dedicated to saving dogs who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and finding loving, caring homes for them.
We rely on a network of foster families so that each dog that we pull into the safety of our rescue is placed in a foster home and is no longer confined to a life in a kennel.
We are committed to helping dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes by partnering with shelters and animal control services right here in Connecticut as well as with several high kill shelters in the South.
We do a full assessment of each dog's temperament and health to ensure that we are able to find the most suitable home for them. Every dog is fully vetted - meaning they are up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, heartworm negative and micro chipped - before being adopted.
The ASPCA estimates that approximately 3.3 million dogs in the United States enter shelters each year, of which approximately 670,000 are euthanized*. Our goal is to advocate for and provide education about the need for spaying and neutering to eliminate what has become an epidemic of unwanted dogs.*
