My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Valerie – The Gentle Black Beauty

Born on April 13, 2025, Valerie’s start to life wasn’t easy. At just five months old, she and her sister, Della, were rescued by a kind Samaritan after being found abandoned in a culvert drain. When they first arrived, the pair trusted only each other.

After a week to decompress, Della moved to a new foster home while Valerie stayed at the Good Catch Farm, where she soon made friends with all of the dogs in rescue.

Valerie is a reserved, thoughtful girl who prefers to take her time warming up to new people and situations. She does best with slow introductions, and we’ve noticed she’s a bit cautious around tall men, likely a reminder of her past. Sitting down and letting her come to you works wonders for building trust.

Her DNA results gave us insight into her nature; part Pyrenees and Shepherd, she has a strong, expressive bark that she uses sparingly but effectively when she’s uncertain or alerting to strangers.

In the home, Valerie is the definition of calm and well-mannered. She enjoys lounging alongside her person with her squeaky toys, is house trained, crate trained and walks beautifully on leash.

She’d do best in a home without small children; respectful kids 7 and up who understand gentle introductions would be ideal. Valerie deserves every chance for success, and we’ll provide her adopters with all the guidance they need to help her continue to blossom.

This sweet girl loves naps, quiet companionship, hunting for acorns and a good splash in the water. She’s gentle, affectionate and will surely thrive in a home that offers patience, soft words and the enrichment every young pup deserves. A home with a yard is her best match as she enjoys soaking up the sun and stretching her legs every morning. Apartment living would not suit her well.

Valerie is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and up-to-date on flea, tick and heartworm prevention.

If you’re looking for a calm, loyal companion who’s ready to share her heart, Valerie may be your perfect match.

More about this rescue

We are Jen and Lloyd Fairley. Our rescue is located in South Texas where there's a need for better legislation in animal welfare.

We've been saving dogs for almost 20 years, we just never put a name to it. Years of doctoring unknowns and scrambling to find sponsors or adopters for yet another stray soul, has led us here.

We are animal lovers who saw a need, and rather than exhaust our fellow rescues, we joined forces to battle in the war for the underdogs.

We continue to march towards freedom and forever for those abandoned and discarded.

Our dogs are fostered in a dog friendly environment. They are exposed to livestock and cats, and we can quickly determine their requirements with boundaries in a permanent home. They get daily outdoor exercise and sleep in cozy beds in their foster's homes at night. Each dog is spayed or neutered (if older than 6 months), vaccinated, heartworm and tick disease tested and on preventatives. Dogs over 12 months receive a ProHeart12 shot which provides 1 year of prevention to heartworm. We have an extensive deworming protocol and feed a good quality dog food.

Dogs are cat, dog, kid and fence tested before matching them with their humans.

We pride ourselves in being transparent.

We use trusted rescue transport partners to deliver our adopted dogs to their forever homes up North.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions by filling out our contact form or, if interested in one of our dogs, please fill out our adoption application and we'll be in touch within 24 hours.
