Leif is brilliant, brave, and everyone’s best friend. This snuggly, silly, and soulful boy is ready for his family to find him. He’s exceptionally dog-friendly, socially fluent, and forms easy, meaningful bonds with people.
Leif is smart…really smart. He’s excelled in holiday manners and obedience training and is highly handler-motivated, making him a true delight to work with. We suspect he has some shepherd or Malinois in the mix, which means he genuinely enjoys having a “job,” even if that job is learning new cues, solving puzzle toys, or practicing good manners.
Despite his intelligence, Leif is low energy and relaxed in the home. What he loves most is moderate intellectual engagement: sniffy walks, training sessions, puzzles, and structured interaction with his people. He is crate trained, house-trained, leash trained, trick trained, and eager to keep learning.
Leif is extremely dog social and does best in a home with another dog (or dogs) of similar energy. He has done wonderfully in play group at The Pit, where he consistently reads other dogs well, takes cues appropriately, and adjusts his behavior with ease. He truly seems happiest when he has a canine companion to share life with.
When Leif first arrived in foster care, he was quite mouthy (likely a mix of stress, overstimulation, and intelligence without an outlet). With structure, training, and periodic decompression, he has made enormous progress. This growth speaks volumes about his adaptability and his desire to do right by his humans. He loves affection and is endlessly endearing.
Leif is the kind of dog who becomes a best friend, a teammate, and a steady presence in your life. If you’re ready for a thoughtful companion who loves learning, loves dogs, and loves you, Leif is ready to clock in.
Ideal Home:
• A dog-savvy adopter who enjoys training and engagement
• One or more friendly dogs with similar energy
• Someone who appreciates a calm dog with an active mind
