My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Arlo! I’m a 5-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog with a big heart, soft eyes, and a tendency to stay close to the people I love. If I had my way, I’d always be right by your side—quietly leaning into you, brushing my head against your hand, just to make sure we’re still together. I’m a gentle, sensitive soul. I may greet new people with a big bark but with a sniff and a bit of time I`ll be their best friend. I might take a minute to warm up (not too long though!) and when I’m ready, I’ll come back for more pets all on my own. I’m not flashy or demanding—I just want reassurance and connection. The hardest thing for me is being alone. I’ve struggled with separation anxiety since I was a puppy, and it’s something my future family will need to understand and be patient with. When I get scared or stressed without my person, I can pace, vocalize, or have accidents in the house. I’m currently on anxiety medication, and I’ll need an adopter who is home often, willing to continue working with a vet, and open to supportive training to help me feel more secure. This may be a lifelong journey for me—but I promise I’m worth it. On walks, I do my best. I can get a bit strong if I’m anxious, but overall I walk nicely and just need gentle guidance. Other dogs don’t bother me much—I’m respectful and tend to keep to myself, so calm canine friends are just fine. What I care about most is my person. I didn’t lose my last home because I wasn’t loved—there just wasn’t enough time to give me what I need. I’m hoping my next home will be different. A place where someone is around most of the day. A place where I don’t have to worry about being left behind. A place where I can finally exhale. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will stick close, love deeply, and meet you with quiet devotion every day… I might be your Arlo.
