My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Current Location: Baltimore, MD

Shirley is a super sweet, affectionate young girl with a gentle heart and a love for her people. She starts out a little shy when meeting someone new, then warms up quickly and leans right in for snuggles, kisses, and quiet companionship. She does well with both men and women and clearly enjoys being part of the action, as long as it includes love and attention.

She is doing well with her training and is eager to please. Shirley is food and praise motivated and lights up when she hears a happy voice or gets a bit of encouragement. She sleeps in her crate at night and settles after a brief mumble under her breathe, which is often accompanied by a very expressive hound style cry if she needs to go out. After a few early accidents, she is catching on nicely to pottying outside and continues to improve.

Shirley enjoys time in the yard, exploring and checking in often to be sure you are still close. She has met another dog and showed friendly interest, choosing to observe first and then happily joining in to run and chase birds once she felt comfortable. She does well with dogs and approaches new situations thoughtfully.

Her energy level is nicely balanced. She enjoys activity and exploration, then happily stretches out on the sofa or curls up beside her people for pets and rest. Shirley is smart, cuddly, and deeply people focused. She would thrive in a home that values connection, gentle guidance, and plenty of affection.

MEET AND GREETS

We primarily rely on meet & greets for potential adopters. Approved adopters may meet adoptable animals at the home of the animal's foster, or possibly in the adopter's own home.

More about this rescue

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized daily. We provide foster homes where they can get the love and attention needed before finding their forever homes. Our organization provides pet adoption services in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and parts of Southern Pennsylvania. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded and could not save these dogs and fulfill their dreams of being united with their forever families, without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors and volunteers. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own.
