Florence
4 months old | ~20 lbs
Lab / Belgian Malinois–type mix (best guess)
Elfie’s sister
Florence is a sweet, attentive puppy who enjoys being around people and other dogs. She is friendly with kids and comfortable in social settings, making her a great candidate for a home looking to add a young dog to the family. Her experience with cats is currently unknown.
Based on what we’ve been told and her appearance, Florence appears to be a Labrador Retriever / Belgian Malinois–type mix. Dogs with this mix are often intelligent, active, and very people-focused. Florence is expected to grow into a medium to large adult, likely in the 50–65 lb range.
Florence is still in her puppy stage and will benefit from continued training, routine, and daily outlets for both mental and physical exercise. This type of mix does best with adopters who enjoy engaging with their dog — walks, playtime, learning new skills, and building a bond through consistency.
With guidance and structure, Florence has the potential to become a loyal, well-mannered companion. She would do best in a home ready to invest time in training and enjoy watching a smart puppy grow into a confident adult dog.
If you’re looking for a young dog to grow with your family and be an active part of daily life, Florence may be a wonderful fit.

More about this rescue
The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.
Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.
Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs). Visit our website to learn more about us at heartofamericahs.org.
