My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mona is a sweet and gentle girl about 2 1/2 who came to us as a stray. She loves to have attention and spend time with people. Mona gets along with most other nice cats or would be happy having all your attention to herself.

Mona has tested positive for FIV, also known at kitty Aids. Just like with people it is NOT contagious through casual contact. It's safe to share food, water, and litter box with a negative cat. FIV is only passed by mating or a deep bite wound, where saliva from the positive cat enters the blood stream of another kitty. This is very rare in socialized house cats.

FIV cats may have a shorter life span in part due to the fact that with a compromised immune system they are more prone to contracting infections. FIV positive cats must live strictly indoors to reduce the chances of contracting something dangerous.

It is NOT a death sentence! FIV positive cats can live well into their teens and have a very normal life. Mona was fostered in a home with several negative cats.

More about this rescue

We are a brand new non profit 501C3 cat rescue formed in January of 2024! We are an all volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue of abandoned and homeless cats in Bridgeport and surrounding communities. We provide food, shelter, foster homes, vet care, and eventual placement into loving homes.

We actively participate in T(trap), N(neuter), R(release) of feral cats and strive to find barn homes for those who can not be returned to their original location. We promote spaying and neutering as the only way to end overpopulation and the needless suffering of unwanted cats. We further stress the importance of education to address appropriate physical and environmental needs of cats and kittens.

AATC hopes to partner with other rescues in our area! We are interested in collaboration, not competition, with the goal to help more cats together than we can individually.
