Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Odin is a 6–7 month old Great Dane or Great Dane mix (DNA test pending) who’s searching for a home with a couch he can claim as his own. He and his sister made their exit from Chicago Animal Care and Control because, as any Dane lover knows, these gentle giants are far too sensitive for the shelter.
Like any puppy, Odin comes with both pros and cons.
Pros:
- An extreme cuddler who has no idea how big he is, he loves keeping a paw on you or resting his head in your lap. He’s a true companion through and through.
- He came to us underweight, but trust—this is a problem he’s actively solving. He has never met a meal he didn’t show up for and is fully committed to the “clean bowl club.” Just hand him the food.
- He’s dog-friendly and loves having a buddy. That said, he’s still figuring out how to play and absolutely trips over his own legs in the process. Odin: -10. Odin’s legs: 1.
Con:
- Full honesty: Odin’s potty skills are a work in progress. He gets very easily distracted outside—because, priorities, right? We don’t know much about his pre-rescue life, so patience is a must if he’s your forever. The upside? He’ll totally give you a hug to say sorry whenever you have to clean up his mess… and honestly, it’s kind of hard to stay mad at that face.
- You know that feeling when you’re new somewhere and wish people would chill a bit? Yeah, Odin’s the same. He loves attention, but go too fast and he’ll melt into a puddle of tears. Give him five minutes, though, and he’s back to his loving self.
Interested in being Odin's forever home? Apply directly here! He’s currently being fostered in Chicago and is adoptable within a three-hour radius—officially that’s our adoption policy and if you need a dog sitter, his foster mom has obliged, it's me, I'm the foster mom. Odin is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heart worm negative and microchipped with an addition of promising to learn to potty outside asap.

A matching call is required to learn and share more information to ensure that we are setting up both dog and adopter up success if matched.

Additional adoption info
Every dog is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a forever-home match. We are careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right dog with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet’s permanent home. These steps ensure that we have all the information needed to make the best placement for you or your family.

More about this rescue
At Chicago Rescue Authority, our mission is to create a compassionate world where every animal is treated with love, respect, and dignity. We are dedicated to educating the public about the adverse realities of the mass-production industry for puppies, raising awareness about responsible pet adoption and ownership, and actively working towards reducing the overpopulation of dogs in shelters.
Our promise to Chicago is to build our rescue on the tenets of teamwork, education and compassion. We will listen to the concerns and ideas of those around us and be ready to grow alongside this rescue and this mission.
Volunteers, fosters, donors and adopters will be the backbone of this organization, just like every other animal welfare non-profit. We will be hosting a variety of fundraisers and mixers throughout the year aimed at building our support network. We can’t wait to meet all the animals whose lives we are going to change!
