My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tetra!

At three years old, this girl may seem shy and timid at first, but bring out the catnip and she turns into a completely goofball! Awkward but incredibly amusing and lovable, Tetra was rescued with her three babies, Levi, Erwin, and Zoe, two other cats, and a senior pitbull after their elderly owner unfortunately passed away. But from her gentle nature and friendly personality, it's obvious that these babies were all well cared for!

Tetra was an amazing momma and raised her babies to be sweet little weirdos, just like her. Now spayed and fully vetted, we found that Tetra has a very low grade heart murmur, but that doesn't keep her down. We are currently waiting to get this girl an echocardiogram to get a fuller picture of what her situation may look like, but with such a low grade murmur, she is likely to live a full and happy life! Her condition will preferably need to be monitored with yearly vet visits.

You would never be able to tell that this girl has something deeper going on by the way she plays around and acts though. She loves to chase her mice, kick her stuffies, and roll around in catnip all day long. She also enjoys the company of her big buddy Hammy!

Tetra would be an amazing companion, and you will never stop laughing once you gain her trust and she shows you her kooky side!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
