My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you like your dogs full of sunshine happiness with a smile that shows it, I am thrilled to introduce you to Rye. He is the color of a perfectly cooked corndog, is a goofy boy that will fight off any no good, very bad day. And if his goofy side isn’t enough, he will hit you with the 1-2 combo goofy+snuggles. Imagine it, he gets his booty in the air and dives head first into being as close to you as he can. He switches it up though, sometimes its a two paw hug, other times a move that resembles a marriage proposal. Either way, this boy is truly meant to chase away the blues or at least make sure you don’t do it alone.

Take a look at him here- you’ll see what I mean- then come back to read more!

Rye is estimated to be 1½-year-old, weighs 56 lbs (with a few more to gain) and he may be a Lab mix, maybe even some Rhodesian in there but given he is a rescue breed is not guaranteed and offer only as an observation. He has a long set of legs and we believe he is done growing, other that the few pounds he will gain, but somehow those legs do not interfere with his ability to be snuggly. We see a dog born to be a lover boy, goofball, and adventure buddy!!

My first impression of Rye? Happy, affectionate, and ready to make you laugh. He greets new people with such a friendly approach, like they are already his best friend and every day like it’s the best one ever. He can get a little jumpy when he’s excited, but it’s all joy and eagerness for love and he has learned quickly that sitting gets more praise than jumping so we have no worries this is just a remnant of his puppy days. With a little polishing, this guy is going to be a total show-off in the manners department.

Rye’s foster describes him as “sweet as can be and eager to please”, and that’s spot-on. He’s affectionate, people-oriented, and happiest when he’s close to you, whether that’s lounging at your feet or leaning in for kisses.
When it comes to other dogs, Rye is social and polite. He’s most confident with calm, self-assured dogs, especially females who can handle his enthusiasm but keep things balanced. When meeting new dogs on leash we thought he was going to be bouncy and playful with dogs but he showed a great balance in his approach to play. He was respectful of dogs paired up and playing and just as happy to do his own thing.
Rye met our house cat, Biggie, and was very polite! He sniffed him curiously, watched a bit, and then carried on being his happy self. We would consider him cat-tolerant, though a slow introduction is always key.

Next absolutely amazing thing about this boy is how much he adores kids! He met 7-year-old Cash and was smitten from the start, gentle and affectionate the whole time. If smaller children are in the home he will just need guidance to learn how to contain his excitement. Rye is perfectly suited for family life and it is easy to imagine him being a kids very best tag-along buddy.

Rye does need some polishing up on his leash skills, as he can be a bit all over the place when walking, but he listens well to corrections and loves treats- a great combo for training success!
Because he’s a young dog with a social side and curiosity about the world, Rye will thrive with an adopter who enjoys playtime, walks, and some structure. He could live in an apartment with plenty of exercise and enrichment, though a house with a yard would be a dream come true.

Rye is the kind of dog who happiness wherever he goes - equal parts silly, playful, and adoring. He’s ready to be your best friend and daily dose of sunshine.

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!

We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
