My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What do we know about all dogs in their “teens?” They are equal parts affection and enthusiasm, with a whole heap of smarts and potential! Oh yeah, they also have that fun-loving personality that we love a good dog for! So who are we talking about? This is Cocoa! She is curious and sweet with an expressive face that can practically say it all without a word.

Take a look at her here- https://youtu.be/WrfuO66-hWc

Cocoa is estimated to be roughly a year old German Shepherd/ Pittie Mix, a mix we lovingly call these a German Sheppit, say it- it sounds cute! Of course, given she is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or birthday but those are not the details love is built on. She’s beautiful, smart, and brings that classic shepherd energy and intelligence. Cocoa is thriving in her foster home, where she’s shown herself to be sweet, social, and full of heart. She’s crate trained, potty trained, rides well in the car, and adores her toys. She’s happiest when she’s with her people - whether that means a long walk, a good play session, or curling up nearby to keep you company.

Cocoa has done well sharing space with the dogs in her foster home and has been a regular at their local dog park where she has met a wide variety of dogs. She is best when her playmates are playful but also calm and respectful. With the more rough and tumble playmates she can match their energy, and even get a bit vocal all in good fun. For as much fun as she has with other dogs she is best fulfilled with walks and enrichment. She is a dog that would make a wonderful +1 to your dog as a playmate companion but she would be just as satisfied as an only dog. When she was introduced to our house cat she was very interested, in the way many dogs are- she likely has never met a cat and that curiosity would likely cause her to chase a cat so we believe a no-cat home will be best. With new people, she is friendly and with her family she is affectionate, loyal, and eager to please. She enjoys meeting new people, especially kids who love to play.We think she would make a wonderful family dog and a dreamy tag-along pal for fun-loving, adventurous kids.

This girl is athletic and active, she loves her daily walks and will happily be your running partner if you are looking to set some fitness related new years resolutions. Not only do her walks and outings keep her happy but her foster shared that they are a big part of why she is well-behaved at home. She will shine in a home that enjoys including her in the day-to-day adventures. She has basic leash skills and is able to pass other dogs calmly on leash and navigates sidewalks with ease. That progress will only grow with you by her side. Plus, she is treat-motivated, which always helps with establishing structure and your on-going training.

Cocoa is smart and the perfect age to harness that shepherd heart and smarts. With a little time, direction, and someone who sees her potential, she will happily give you everything you could want in a dog- loyalty, laughs, and so much sweet, snuggly love.

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!

We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
