My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zena is a 40-lb, 5-year-old mix with a gentle soul and a resilient heart. She went through a confusing and difficult transition when her previous owner was unexpectedly arrested, and she found herself impounded by animal control. The dog she lived with was later adopted by shelter staff, leaving Zena on her own.

Now in foster care, Zena has been with us for about a year and a half. She’s currently fostered as a solo dog, though she does see other dogs while out on walks or at the park. At home, she’s happiest curling up on the couch and snoozing while her foster mom is at work rather than being kenneled.

Zena is incredibly loyal and deeply loving with her person. She truly bonds with those she trusts. She enjoys daily walks and gets excited for a good game of fetch, making her a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates both adventure and quiet time together.

She can be a little leery of new people, but give her some time to trust, and she will be the most loyal companion!

This pet is up for adoption through one of our trusted rescue partners, Rescue K-911. He or she is currently in one of their fabulous foster homes. If you would like more information on this pet please reach out to Rescue K-911 directly:

Additional adoption info

We firmly believe that EVERYONE deserves the love of a pet, and strive to make our adoption process a positive one!

When you visit our Adoption Center in Raytown, our amazing Matchmakers will go to work helping match you with your perfect pet! If you would like to meet a pet currently located in a foster home, please email foster@marqkc.org and the foster parent will then be in contact to set up a time to meet at the shelter.

Midwest Animal ResQ provides medical treatment for all animals that come into our care. Some pets come to us injured or sick, and require an extraordinary amount of medical intervention. Variable adoption pricing allows us to continue to do more for those animals that need us the very most! Currently our average adoption fees do not begin to cover our average medical costs, not to mention the other costs associated with animal care, thus our fees are not negotiable. Thank you for understanding!

To adopt any animal, a government issued ID is required. For dogs we do require a well fitting collar or harness and a leash, you are welcome to bring those with you, or we have them for sale at the shelter for $5-$15. For cats we require a secure carrier, if you don’t have one, we sell cardboard carriers for $10 at the shelter. You will also receive a copy of all current health records.

We look forward to seeing you, and hopefully matching you with your perfect match!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Midwest Animal ResQ offers a 30-day adjustment period within which you can evaluate the pet's progress and your adoption decision. If, within those 30 days, you determine your recently adopted pet isn't a good fit, you may return the animal and receive a MARQ credit that can be used toward the adoption of another animal. Our biggest priority is finding the very best match for you, and Completing Families one Tail at a Time!

All dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, Heartworm tested, and current on vaccinations and preventions prior to adoption.

Our shelter is located at 10312 East 63rd Street in Raytown, MO. We are open to meet pets Tuesday through Friday from 10-6, and on Saturday and Sunday from 10-5. We are closed on Mondays.
