Maizey is a shy, nervous 9-year-old senior who was found as a stray. While we don’t know what her past looked like, we do know that life hasn’t always been gentle with her. She’s a quiet, sad girl who keeps her guard up and doesn’t trust easily—but she is trying, and that matters.
In her photo, you’ll see Maizey tucked into a box bed. That box is her safe space. While it may look a little unwelcoming at first glance, please know that Maizey is not scary at all—she’s just nervous. The box helps her feel protected while she learns that she’s finally safe.
Maizey needs a very special person who is patient, understanding, and willing to move at her pace. She may never be the first to ask for attention, but with time, consistency, and kindness, she has the potential to slowly open her heart again.
All Maizey needs now is a forever home that won’t give up on her—a calm place where she can feel secure and finally start to trust. If you believe love is built gently and slowly, Maizey is waiting for you. 💛

More about this shelter
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
