My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bay 💧

Bay is a very nervous—almost petrified—FIV-positive kitty who is still learning that the world can be safe. In her photo, you’ll see her tucked inside her box, which is her safe space. When things feel overwhelming or uncertain, that box gives her comfort and a place to retreat where she knows she won’t be bothered.

Bay’s past is completely unknown, but what is clear is that she needs a special person: someone compassionate, patient, and deeply understanding. She needs gentle, unconditional love paired with the ability to recognize when she needs space. Moving at Bay’s pace and respecting her boundaries will be key to earning her trust.

Because Bay is FIV-positive, it is recommended that she not be adopted into a home with FIV-negative cats. While the risk of transmission is low, it isn’t impossible. That said, the final decision is up to the adopter, and Bay would be happy either way.

Bay is a wonderful cat who just needs that one person willing to understand her and give her the safety she’s been missing. With time and patience, she has the potential to quietly blossom in a loving home. 💙💧

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
