My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Shaggy!

This sweet boy was found as a stray, heavily matted and needed urgent assistance! He is a very gentle-natured boy who relies on his people very heavily. So much so that he has pretty severe separation. He requires a family who is going to be home at all times and is willing to put in a lot of time to help him be more confident when left alone. He will require an Animal Kind trainer and on-going training. He is looking for someone who can put lots of time and energy into helping him with his anxiety. He is super cuddly and just loves everyone! We do not know how he is with other dogs, so slow introductions would be necessary.

He's very affectionate and is great on walks. He doesn't pull and stays right by your side. Shaggy loves to cuddle as well, often times reminding you he wants more pets by placing his paw on you.

He will require ongoing grooming and medical care. While he is undergoing his current medical care, he will be available for foster with the intention of adoption. He requires surgery and specific medication regimen.

Walk-ins are prioritized.

We are open to walk in's Tuesday - Saturday 12 pm -4 pm (except for Stat Holidays).

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
