Mika is a beautiful, sweet girl who has been through far too much for her age. She was surrendered to the shelter by her previous owners and needed extra time to adjust to the change. With the help of her wonderful foster family, Mika slowly regained some confidence and also received soft palate surgery along with her spay to help her breathing. Mika has experienced trauma and is very sensitive to change. She was adopted a few months ago, but her adopter was unable to commit to the time, patience, and training she needs, so she has returned to rescue. We are dedicated to finding her a forever home that will cherish her exactly as she is, commit to her continued training and growth, and approach her journey with patience and understanding. She is a little shadow who loves being near her people and gets along well with all animals. When she feels safe and secure, her personality truly shines. She is energetic, silly, and playful, though it takes time for that side of her to emerge. Mika has always lived with other animals, so wed like her to go into a home with a confident and social dog who can show her the ropes. Were also prioritizing a home where someone is around most of the time. Sudden noises and movements can startle her, so a calm, quiet environment is ideal. While she made good progress with potty training in rescue previously, she has regressed slightly and is currently uses pee pads. With time, positive reinforcement, and consistency, Mika will improve her potty training. Mika is incredibly resilient and deserves a loving home she will never have to say goodbye to again.

After an application is received, we will reach out to schedule an interview. If the applicant is a renter, we will require landlord approval. If the applicant has a yard, we will require a digital walkthrough of the fence line. Once approved, the adopter is eligible to connect with the foster of the dog they're interested in for a meet and greet. If all goes well, the adopter can take the dog home!

Bay Area Pug Project (BAPP) is more than just a rescue - it’s a movement.
California suffers from a backyard breeding epidemic, and pugs are sadly one of the outputs. Pug rescues across the nation come to our state to save pugs from unsafe, unwanted, and undesirable situations, and there can never be enough help to tackle this crisis.
Founded by a group of experienced and passionate volunteers, BAPP was born from a shared love of pugs and a desire to build a strong, informed community around the breed. We believe that true rescue goes beyond saving dogs—it means educating the public, advocating for responsible ownership, and collaborating with other groups for maximum impact.
We’re dedicated to supporting brachycephalic breed enthusiasts and the communities where neglect or limited education are common, offering resources and guidance to promote better care and health outcomes.
Pugs are more than cute snorts and curly tails—they’re complex little souls who deserve to be understood and cared for by informed and pug-obsessed homes like ours. Join us in making a difference.
