Meet Disco!
Disco is a 1–2 year old, 17 lb Havanese mix with a soft, non-shedding coat and a whole lot of charm packed into a small frame. He came into the shelter as a very matted little guy, and in a moment of questionable grooming judgment, his body was completely shaved while his fluffy face was left untouched. The result is a rather unforgettable look right now— but don’t worry, his coat will grow back beautifully, and his sweet personality already steals the show. Plus he doesn't mind dressing up in cute outfits, so pick your favorite Xmas themed sweater and he'll be happy to wear it!
Daily Routine & Home Life
Disco starts his day with a snuggly greeting as he exits his crate, full of excitement and affection. He’s known to gently mouth a hand in his enthusiasm, something his foster is actively redirecting to appropriate chew options. After a morning walk around 7 a.m., it’s breakfast time, followed by what Disco does best: settling in close. He loves sitting in a lap or right next to his person with his head resting contentedly while the day slowly begins.
Throughout the day, Disco prefers to stay close by, often choosing a lap as his favorite spot. If his person steps out briefly, he’s happy to curl up in a chair and relax, as long as tempting chewable items like socks and clothes are safely out of reach. He enjoys structured activity—three walks a day (morning, mid-day, and evening) and a couple of short play sessions of fetch or gentle tug— but once those needs are met, he’s more than ready to lounge. At bedtime, Disco sleeps peacefully in his carrier through the night.
Personality
Disco is a world-class cuddler. He is calm, affectionate, and very people-oriented, following his person from room to room and always looking for an opportunity to sit beside them or climb into a lap. He’s low-key in the house, rarely barking, and has a soothing presence that makes him an excellent companion dog. When he gets excited, he can become mouthy, especially toward hands or clothing, but this is easily managed with appropriate chews like bully sticks or no-hide chews, which he loves.
Energy Level & Play Style
Disco is a nice balance of mellow and active. Indoors, he’s a relaxed lounger who enjoys watching the world go by—especially squirrels and birds from the window. Outside, he has a much higher gear. Walks are exciting for him, and he tends to pull at first until he settles in. He’s alert, curious, and enthusiastic, with a definite interest in chasing anything that moves.
Walking & Social Skills
On leash, Disco is friendly and curious with other dogs and people. He gets excited but is not leash reactive and mostly stays quiet. He’s attentive to his surroundings and enjoys being out and about. He has interacted well with a neighbor’s dog and generally shows polite interest. He does chase squirrels, birds, and cats, so a secure leash and supervision are important.
Training & Habits
Disco is house-trained and crate-trained. He prefers going potty on walks and is still learning that the yard is also an acceptable option, though he has recently learned to use a doggy door. As long as his potty breaks are regular, he does very well. He does not dig, rarely barks, and alerts quietly if he hears something unusual. Chewing is his main habit— he’ll happily choose socks or clothes if left unattended— so supervision and access to appropriate chews are key.
Why Disco?
Disco is the kind of dog who quietly inserts himself into your life and heart. He’s affectionate without being demanding, playful without being over-the-top, and content to nap beside you for hours. His favorite thing in the world is curling up on a lap or rolling onto his back for a belly rub, instantly melting into relaxation. If you’re looking for a gentle, devoted companion who truly wants to be part of your everyday life, Disco is ready to take that spot right next to you.
