Kenzo is still available for adoption, and his adoption fee is $300. He’s an 8‑year‑old Shih Tzu who weighs about 9lbs—a little guy looking for a calm and loving place to call home.
Kenzo was surrendered to us due to new babies in the home, which caused him anxiety. Since arriving, he has shown that he does not like other dogs and does not respond well to correction. He’s an active old man.
Our veterinary team noted that Kenzo has a heart murmur, but he does not require medication for it at this time. Otherwise, he has been fully cleared as healthy and is ready for his forever family 🏡💛. Because of this sensitive nature, Kenzo would do best in a calmer home with no young children.
Please note: Since we don’t observe our animals in home settings, we cannot guarantee potty training. Each pet may need time, patience, and guidance to adjust to a new routine.
Every animal adopted from us receives:

Microchip
Updated vaccinations
Blood and fecal testing (with treatment if needed)
Flea/tick and heartworm prevention
A free wellness exam within 7–10 days of adoption

We have an adoption application for dogs and cats and will check a vet reference as well as information regarding your home situation and pet compatibility.

Animal Hope opened its doors as a standalone shelter on February 1, 2015.
Prior to that, Animal Hope operated as a small rescue at Animal Hospital Southwest. As the municipal veterinarian for the city of Fort Worth, Animal Hospital Southwest frequently pulled difficult cases that the city was not equipped to treat and rehabilitate due to budgetary and time constraints.
From this organization was born the Animal Hope shelter, a rescue focusing on rehabilitation and “second chance” adoptions.
