Meet Melon — Soft, Sweet, and Learning to Trust Again
Melon’s journey with us began when she curled up on a stranger’s porch, alone and unsure, until a Good Samaritan reached out for help. One of our volunteers brought her to safety, and after a full sedated vet exam — x-rays, bloodwork, and a heartworm test (negative!) — we learned that her swollen belly was caused by a heavy parasite load. She immediately started treatment, and now that most parasites are gone, she’s already feeling so much better. She’s currently finishing up care for ringworm.
In just a week, Melon has gone from shut down and frightened to showing glimpses of the truly lovely dog she is. She may still be cautious with strangers, but once she decides you’re safe? She’s all heart.
Melon’s Personality
• Sweet, gentle, and surprisingly affectionate once she warms up
• The best home-office coworker — she loves napping under her foster’s desk during the workday
• Lap-lover and kiss-giver once she trusts you
• Enjoys walks, though passing cars make her nervous
• Curious and hopeful, learning every day that people can be kind
Melon recently met a smaller dog and was excited but appropriate — she seems like she could be dog-friendly with slow, structured introductions. We’re going at her pace so she can build confidence safely.
What Melon Needs
Melon has been through a lot, and she’ll thrive in a home that can offer:
• A calm, predictable environment
• Patience as she gains confidence with new people
• Slow, gentle introductions to any pets
• Support as she continues healing
• Understanding, especially on walks when cars feel overwhelming
She has already bonded beautifully with her foster and is showing how much she wants to trust, connect, and be part of someone’s life. She’s the kind of dog who will repay kindness tenfold once she feels secure.
Help Melon Continue Her Journey
Melon is a resilient, loving girl who is finally getting the chance to feel safe. If you can open your home, even temporarily, you’ll be giving her the stability and love she’s been missing for far too long.
If you can foster or adopt Melon, or even share her story, you can help her find the soft landing she deserves.
