Peanut (brown tabby) and Blackberry (solid black) are two four-month-old brothers. They are looking for a home where they can stay together. Here’s what their foster volunteers say about them:

How would you describe the cat's general personality?

This is an adorable pair of sweet boys! Peanut is the more attention seeking of the two, with a mighty purr and love for belly rubs. Blackberry is a little more reserved, preferring to observe his brother’s antics. Peanut’s outgoing nature is great for Blackberry, who looks to his brother to help bring him out of his shell. We’ve only had the boys 1.5 weeks and they have both come an amazing way in such a short time. We’re confident that they will both continue to blossom.

Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?

Yes, Peanut LOVES to be pet and will rub against your hand for attention if you aren’t already petting him. He loves to be pet all over, including paws and his belly. Blackberry leans into chin scritches and likes to be pet along his back. He does not yet like belly rubs.

Does the cat come on your lap?

Yes, both will come on our lap – Peanut will crawl on our lap if we’re on the floor on his own steam, but Blackberry will come on our laps if given churu.

Does the cat like to be held?

Peanut loves to be held, Blackberry does not yet.

Does the cat sleep in your bed?

They have not had the opportunity as they are staying in our foster room.

Does the cat seek your attention?

Yes, especially Peanut! He will come over and gets jealous if you’re giving Blackberry attention, pushing his head in for churu or pets. Blackberry meows quietly for attention and food.

Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys?

They enjoy playing together – we often hear them romping around their room. Because they came from outside they did not grow up with toys and are still learning these – Peanut has learnt to enjoy play with a wand toy, and Blackberry likes to bat around a catnip toy.

How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make?

Peanut has one of the loudest purrs we’ve heard! Blackberry has a soft delicate purr when being pet too. Blackberry will occasionally meow for attention or food.

Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain.

We have occasionally observed them using a scratching post, but they also do not claw at our furniture.

Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain.

Yes, perfect litter box use and good coverage of their waste. They do seem to think that poops are fun to play with and sometimes bat them around the room – we’re working on getting them to engage with more appropriate toys!

What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food?

They are eating Fancy Feast kitten pate two cans each per day. They have a great appetite and love mealtimes!

What is the cat's favorite treat?

Churu! We’ve used churu pretty extensively to encourage their socialization. Blackberry especially loves treat time!

Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?

No

Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?

No

Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?

No

Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?

Blackberry once in the first day when we tried to pick him up and he was very scared. Nothing since then though.

To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?

We have not yet introduced them to new people.

If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on?

They get on great with other cats – we’ve introduced them to one of ours and Peanut wanted to be friends instantly, Blackberry watched with a relaxed body language.

Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?

Peanut is an absolute ham – he loves attention and petting, rolling around and striking cute poses. Blackberry is such a sweet, endearing soul with very expressive eyes and a beautiful thick tail. Both boys are VERY soft!

In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?

They are a well matched pair who love each other. They are incredibly sweet and have a great balance of personalities. It’s really cute how Peanut checks in on his brother and instills confidence in him.  We have seen them become more comfortable with us day by day, which is so rewarding!

What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?

We have found that food is a great motivator, especially for Blackberry, in building his trust with humans. A regular routine, patience and treats have really helped them in getting comfortable.
