My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the marvelous Mister Green! This handsome older gentleman came to us as an owner surrender, and his age is approximately 35-40 years old, although that is just an estimation. Don't let that number fool you though, amazon parrots are capable of living upwards of 60+ years, so this guy still has plenty of life left to live.

Mr. Green is looking for a home that understands the quirks and complex needs of an Amazon parrot. While he does like to interact with his people, he has a history of being prone to biting and should be handled with caution. His new home should be very familiar with parrot behavior and be willing to take things slow while earning his trust.

When he first arrived in our care, Mr. Green had an upper respiratory infection that was making him feel quite tired and grumpy. After a couple visits to the vet, and a couple rounds of medication, he is feeling much better and his personality is really starting to shine through. He is starting to show off some of the sounds he knows, and we often hear him quietly mumbling to himself - practicing his words. He is starting to find his voice again and his volume is increasing all the time.

Mr. Green has become quite the active boy as he has settled in here and he will need a home that will provide him with lots of enrichment - toys, puzzles, things to destroy - Amazon parrots are intelligent animals that are hardwired to always be foraging for food, so it is important to keep them busy.

Mr. Green came to us with some scruffy feathers, likely due to a vitamin deficiency. We are working on getting him onto Harrison's pellets (per vet recommendation), but he is still very attached to his seeds so it is an ongoing process. He does eat some fresh foods and he is starting to get better about trying new things. His new home will need to continue on with this process of getting him onto a healthier diet to get him looking and feeling his best.
