My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mya!

Mya came to the shelter through an owner surrender after being left behind during a difficult housing and family situation. She is a sensitive, gentle dog who can feel unsure in new environments but shows a very sweet side once she feels safe. Mya prefers to approach people on her own terms and warms up with patience, soft voices, and treats. When she's comfortable, she seeks affection, leans in for pets, and shows a playful, bouncy personality.

My Ideal Home

Mya would thrive in a calm, adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand fearful or sensitive dogs. She needs a patient environment that allows her to decompress and build confidence at her own pace. Force-free, reward-based training, predictable routines, and gentle handling will help her feel secure. A quieter home with consistency and reassurance will allow Mya's true personality to shine.

Good with Kids?

No. Due to her fearfulness and sensitivity to handling, Mya is recommended for a home without children under 13.

Good with Other Pets?

Mya has lived with other dogs and is reported to be social and outgoing with both familiar and unfamiliar dogs off leash. Shelter observations show her engaging in appropriate, playful interactions with other dogs. She is also reported to be friendly with cats. As always, slow introductions are recommended in a new home.

Leash Manners

Mya walks nicely on leash once she's comfortable, with little to no pulling. She can be hesitant during leashing and may startle in busy environments, but with calm guidance and positive reinforcement, she settles and walks politely.

Overall Health

Recovering from CIRDC.

Behavior Determination

Level 4 - Experienced Adopters. Mya has fear-based behaviors and handling sensitivity that require a patient, knowledgeable home focused on confidence-building and choice-based interactions.

Other Fun Facts

Mya is housetrained, enjoys playtime with other dogs, and has a soft, affectionate side once she trusts you. She may pee a little when excited and loves gentle affection on her own terms. With time, consistency, and kindness, Mya has the potential to become a deeply loving and loyal companion
