Kane | 4yo | Terrier/Schnauzer mix
• Neutered male
• 6 kg | 30 cm (shoulder height)
• Grey / Brown coat
• Medium energy
Rescue Story
Kane was rescued from a city shelter euthanasia list in November 2023.
He spent nearly two years in a private shelter before finally moving to a foster home in early December. Since entering foster care, Kane has been steadily gaining confidence and showing his true personality.
Human Socialization
Kane is generally friendly with people and not overly shy, though he can become cautious when he feels tense in new situations. Thanks to his affectionate and gentle nature, he warms up quickly.
When he first arrived at his foster home, it took about two days for him to bond with his foster mom, and he now happily follows her around.
He currently lives with 3- and 5-year-old children. While he coexists well with them and can go on walks with children, he doesn’t actively seek out attention from kids.
Kane is comfortable being picked up with an arm under his belly, and once bonded, he often shows his belly as a sign of trust.
Dog Socialization
Kane is social with both familiar and unfamiliar dogs and often approaches politely to greet and invite play.
He is not fearful of larger dogs but tends to be more comfortable with dogs closer to his own size.
He prefers calm or moderate-energy dogs and may feel overwhelmed by very high-energy play styles.
Even if another dog provokes him, Kane does not react aggressively.
Cats
Kane has not lived with cats. On walks, he may look at cats with curiosity, but he responds well to handler guidance and follows along without issue.
Energy Level
Kane has a moderate energy level. He enjoys outdoor activities and walks, but once home, he settles nicely and rests calmly.
Walks
Kane was initially unsure about walks, but with daily practice in foster care, his confidence has improved greatly. He now enjoys walking and does best when leashed, even with people he doesn’t know well.
Interestingly, when off-leash, he tends to ignore people more and is less responsive.
Additional Notes
• No food guarding with people or dogs
• Generally quiet and not vocal
• Calm and well-mannered in a crate
• Currently potty trained for outdoor elimination
Kane is a gentle, affectionate boy who has waited a long time for his chance at a real home. With patience and love, he will make a wonderful companion.
