My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Graham: A Young Aussie Mix With a Heart Full of Hope

Hi… my name is Graham, and I’m a 7–8‑month‑old Australian Shepherd mix who’s still figuring out the world but trying my very best to be brave. I haven’t had an easy start, but I’m hopeful—really hopeful—that the right person or family will read this and think I might be the dog they’ve been waiting for.

I was picked up as a stray in Yuma by animal control. I waited there for 2–3 weeks, watching the door every time it opened, wondering if someone would come for me. But no one ever did. I didn’t know why, but I kept holding on. Then Central Arizona Animal Rescue came for me, and now I’m safe, cared for, and waiting for my forever home. I’ll stay here until that day comes.

A Little About Me

  • Shy with strangers : I’m still learning to trust new people, but I’m getting better every day.

  • Prefers women and children : I warm up faster to them and feel more at ease.

  • Great with other dogs : I love the dogs I live with and play nicely.

  • Fence‑barker at unfamiliar dogs : I’m young, alert, and already showing signs of being a good watchdog.

  • Unknown with cats or house‑training : My past is a mystery, but I’m eager to learn.

  • Longer coat needing grooming : I’m fluffy and handsome, but I’ll need regular brushing to stay that way.

My Personality

I’m a gentle soul. New people can feel a little scary at first, but once I understand you’re kind, I start to relax. I’m still a puppy, so I’m learning how to be confident, how to trust, and how to enjoy all the good things life has to offer. I’m playful with other dogs, curious about the world, and very observant. I already know who belongs here and who doesn’t, which means I’ll grow into a wonderful watchdog as I mature.

I’m especially comfortable with women and children—they help me feel safe. Men aren’t bad; I just need more time to warm up. With patience, kindness, and consistency, I know I’ll blossom.

My Health & Care

I’m all ready for my new home.

  • Current on vaccinations

  • Neutered

  • Microchipped so I’ll never be lost again

My coat is on the longer side, so I’ll need regular grooming. Without it, things can get tangled and messy, and I want to look my best for you.

What I’m Hoping For

I’m not looking for perfection—just someone patient, gentle, and willing to help me grow into the confident, loving dog I’m meant to be. I’d love a home where I can feel safe, learn at my own pace, and be part of a family that understands shy dogs can become the most loyal companions.

I imagine myself curled up at your feet, going on walks, playing with dog friends, and learning that the world isn’t so scary after all. I imagine belonging. I imagine being loved.

Maybe you’re imagining the same thing.

If you’d like to meet me, please e‑mail mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. I’ll be here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, waiting with a hopeful heart and a wagging tail.
