My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

At 3:30 in the morning, when the world was quiet and the temperature had dropped to 20 degrees, Anna was left behind. Dumped in our parking lot alongside her senior sister, Elsa. No goodbye. No explanation. Just two older girls standing in the cold, waiting for someone who never came back.

Anna is a senior dog who has clearly known love before. She didn’t arrive angry or aggressive—she arrived confused. Gentle. Clinging closely to Elsa, the only familiar thing she had left. They stayed pressed together for warmth, comfort, and safety, because when everything else was taken from them, they still had each other.

Despite what they endured, Anna is incredibly sweet. She seeks out attention with soft eyes and quiet hope, leaning in for affection like she’s afraid it might disappear. She doesn’t ask for much—just a warm place, a gentle hand, and the chance to spend her days beside her sister, where she feels safe.

Anna and Elsa are bonded and must stay together. They have already lost everything once. We won’t let them lose each other too.

Senior dogs are so often overlooked, but Anna has so much love left to give. She deserves comfort, dignity, and peace—not another cold night wondering why she wasn’t enough.More information? Call Marion Area Humane Society at 740-389-6548 or email at manager@mahspets.org

More about this shelter

Marion Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization incorporated in 1967 under ORC 1717. We strive to educate, assist and protect the animals of the Marion area. Since 1986 have operated a shelter to provide a humane environment for homeless animals. In 2011 several generous donors and grants made it possible for a shelter renovation and addition of a separate intake section. MAHS operates a open-admissions shelter with a guilt and fee free surrender policy, to encourage owners who can not properly care or maintain proper living conditions for their pets to do the best thing for the pet. MAHS also provides humane investigations and a spay/neuter voucher program for Marion county.
