My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our wonderful One-Eared Willie is truly a one-of-a-kind pup. Willie was brought to us after another dog ripped off his ear. That did not stop this clever canine from being full of life and seeking love. This silly goofball has become some of the volunteers’ favorite and knows how to grab everyone’s attention.

He is addicted to belly rubs and will happily present his belly all day long to you, your kids, and any other bystanders who happen along. It’s truly delightful to see him throw himself upside-down at your feet, waiting patiently for pettin’s & lovin’s. Whether he’s been good or a little naughty he knows how to draw you in with a quick roll to his back and feet in the air.

This boy’s favorite snack: a cheeseburger! He can devour one in the blink of an eye, no chewing required. Quite impressive. Food motivated is an understatement.

Willie is currently our longest-term resident. He has seen many of his kennel mates leave one by one while he sits and wonders when his turn will be next. If you’re looking for a constant companion who plays with enthusiasm then this is your guy. Trust us, Willie is worth it!

More about this shelter

The Gateway Area Humane Society was established in 1982 with a deep commitment to protecting and improving the lives of animals in our community. In the early years, we operated without a physical facility, focusing our efforts on neglect and cruelty investigations, follow-ups, and rescuing animals from county shelters and directly from the public. Even then, our goal was clear: to provide care, compassion, and second chances to animals in need.

Over the years, we've grown into a full-service organization with a shelter and spay/neuter clinic, allowing us to expand our impact. We house both dogs and cats with the hope of helping them find their forever homes. We occasionally partner with out-of-state rescues to further our mission.

At the heart of everything we do is the belief that the only long-term solution to pet overpopulation is to promote spaying and neutering in every way possible. Through community education, accessible services, and dedicated rescue work, we remain committed to creating a safer, more compassionate world for animals—one pet at a time.
