My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello GDFRL Fans – Chauncey here! Foster Mom has been quite remiss in providing any updates on me - she says sorry! I tried to type one up myself but the keyboard just wasn’t made for paws my size so all I managed was this – ;lp/asdvb fgdp;iÒÚ¿;lsedf – which isn’t too informative. A reminder of my back story - I came to GDFRL this summer from an SC shelter. I was originally found earlier this year with my muzzle tied shut. My owner paid the fine and took me home only to drive me out into the middle of nowhere earlier this summer, tie me to a tree, and abandon me. Foster Mom says besides the physical scars, I have some emotional scars from him. Car rides cause me some anxiety because I’m not 100% sure if I am going to be abandoned again and sometimes I have to use my big bark when strangers come around because I don’t know if they will be nice to me. FM says I don’t have to worry and she’s going to prove to me that most people are kind and they are going to love me and pet me and give me toys and treats. This really nice lady named Caitlin, who FM says is a wonderful trainer, is going to be working with us so I can meet all these nice people and become the bravest, bestest boy. At home, I have a foster sister who is a third of my size but boy is she tough. We like to wrestle and play and steal toys from each other. There’s kitties at my foster home too, but they get me a bit too excited so I’m not allowed to play with them. Foster Mom says my forever family probably shouldn’t include kitty siblings good for chasing or little pups – ‘cuz she says I’m clumsy and they’re squishable. I am an in-your-face, always by your side kind of guy, so I’m hoping my forever family understands their space is my space, too. FM says I’m also very verbal - what can I say - I have opinions and sometimes she is way slow on serving up dinner. I do try to be a good boy though, and practice my “sit and wait” while she’s mixing up my food. Foster Mom says that sometimes I get a little too mouthy with things, so I have my own room when mom is gone all day. I know what “go to your room” means and I will open the baby gate and run in there and wait for my good boy treat. I have been a naughty boy lately though ‘cuz the mattress is so nice to chew on and is more of a fun challenge than those easy-to-shred dog beds. Foster mom says I should be chewing on all my tug toys or my security jolly ball that I like to mouth – what can I say, it calms me! So here’s what me and foster mom think my perfect forever family would be: – One or two fur siblings to play with who are medium to large dogs. I’ve only met another dane through a fence, and he didn’t really like me, so I didn’t get to try to play with him. – A calmer home that is willing to keep working with me on meeting new people as I learn that I will be protected and people will be nice to me. – No little kids – I just don’t understand the difference between my 158 lbs and little kids a fraction of my size. I’ll want to play with them and mom thinks they will be squished. And the details: – Housetrained – Neutered and up-to-date on vaccine – Has been good with the medium-sized dogs he has met - male and female – No kitties - he is too interested in them and will give chase – Kids 12+ ***Chauncey is being fostered in Asheville NC.
