My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Harbor — A Gentle Soul Ready to Drop Anchor in Your Heart

Harbor is a handsome senior gentleman, estimated to be 7 years old or older, with the look of a unique Akita mix and the most stunning brown and copper coloring throughout his coat. He’s the kind of dog who turns heads with his beauty, but it’s his gentle spirit that truly leaves a lasting impression.

After coming to us as a stray, Harbor has shown just how happy he is to be back with people. He clearly enjoys human company and soaks up kindness with quiet gratitude, proving himself to be an incredibly sweet and easygoing boy. There’s a calm, steady presence about him that makes being around him feel comforting and peaceful.

We believe Harbor is nearly, if not completely, deaf — but it hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He navigates the world confidently and responds well to visual cues and gentle guidance. What he may lack in hearing, he more than makes up for in heart.

Harbor would thrive in a loving home that understands the needs of a senior dog and is ready to offer him patience, consistency, and affection. In return, he’ll give you loyalty, companionship, and the kind of love that only a seasoned soul can offer.

If you’re looking for a sweet, soulful companion who’s ready to settle in and enjoy the quieter side of life, Harbor may be the perfect dog to walk alongside you. Come meet him — he’s ready to find his forever harbor.

If you would like to meet Harbor, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $275, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth.
Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

More about this shelter

We are a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter comprised mostly of volunteers. We take in cats and dogs from local shelters and the public who can no longer care for their pets. Each of the volunteers at FMAR has a tremendous amount of love for animals and simply wants to do what they can to ensure that as many animals as possible find a forever home. Until then, each animal has a home at FMAR indefinitely.
