Meet sweet miss Bertha!
At 8 years old, this beautiful senior girl has the most perfect frosted face — the kind that tells a story of loyalty, resilience, and years of love still left to give.
Bertha came to us from our rural shelter partner after being found as a stray. As a senior in an overcrowded shelter, her odds were not good. Older dogs are often some of the first overlooked — and sometimes the first euthanized — so we acted quickly to get her into a safe, loving foster home.
Over the last month or two, we’ve learned so much about her.
Bertha is wonderfully independent. She’s easygoing, relaxed, and incredibly gentle for her size (around 80 pounds of pure sweetness). But here’s the thing that makes her uniquely Bertha… she thrives in a garage or shop setting. Truly. If there’s a garage door open, that’s where she wants to be. It makes us wonder if maybe in her past life she was someone’s shop dog who wandered off. We may never know her history, but we do know that being in that environment makes her so happy.
She has one prized possession — a big green ball that she proudly carries everywhere. It’s slightly oversized for her face, which somehow makes it even more adorable. 💚
In her senior years, Bertha has become a bit grouchy with other dogs, so she will need a home as the only pet. We know that can limit her options, but we also know her perfect person is out there. Maybe it’s someone who wants a quiet shop companion. Maybe it’s someone looking for a laid-back best friend to simply exist alongside them.
Here’s the urgent part:
Her foster can unfortunately no longer keep her, and we desperately need a new foster or adopter quickly. Bertha has done nothing wrong. She is a good, easy, loving girl who deserves stability and to be spoiled in her golden years.
Senior dogs deserve soft landings. They deserve comfort. They deserve someone who sees the beauty in a frosted face.
If you’ve ever thought about giving a senior dog a chance — this is it. Bertha is ready. 🤍
