My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bertha 🤍 — an 8-year-old Cane Corso–type girl who is sweet as heck and has completely stolen our hearts. Bertha spent several long months in one of our rural shelter partners with little to no interest, quietly waiting while time passed her by. As an older dog in an overcrowded shelter where impossible decisions are constantly being made, Bertha never would have made it out. We knew we couldn’t leave her there — even without a solid plan in place, her life mattered too much.

Thankfully, an incredible foster stepped up at exactly the right moment, and the rest is history. Since settling into her foster home, Bertha has been nothing short of amazing. She’s easygoing, low-key, and full of gentle love. She’ll happily try to join in on playtime, but she gets tired quickly and is just as content relaxing nearby, soaking up the comfort of a soft bed and kind company.

Bertha currently weighs about 65 pounds and still needs to put on some healthy weight. She is heartworm positive and will be starting treatment with our trusted vet very soon, and she’s already being so brave about it. Bertha does well with other dogs, loves every person she meets, and has that calm, soulful presence that only a senior dog can bring. She has not been cat tested.

Senior dogs like Bertha are so often overlooked, yet they have so much love left to give. Bertha is safe today because someone said yes, because a foster opened their home, and because this community continues to show up for dogs who need it most 🐾✨

More about this rescue

We are a small foster based animal rescue located in North Charleston, SC. We pull dogs from rural shelters in South Carolina that would otherwise have no way out. We provide them with a safe, loving home, where we learn more about the pet and what their needs are. Once they have been fully vetted and we know their personality, we match them with their perfect family where the pet will know nothing but love going forward!
