Meet Elmira, a 4.5-year-old female Rottweiler currently in Jacksonville, Florida, who is searching for a new foster home! Elmira is a bundle of joy—funny, goofy, and incredibly loving. She’s been living with her foster mom and three other dogs, 2 Rotties and a small Terrier, but now she needs a new place to land.
Elmira is at a board and train facility where she was recently evaluated. Elmira experienced a brief adjustment period as she settled into the kennel environment. While she did take a bit of extra time to warm up to a few individuals, once comfortable she consistently presented as friendly, affectionate, well-behaved, and responsive. When acclimated, she walked comfortably with all staff members, interacted appropriately with those she encountered, and participated successfully in playtime. Elmira does best with calm handling, clear guidance, and a consistent routine, and she
responds positively when these expectations are in place.
During one specific interaction, Elmira was brought out and initially behaved appropriately with staff. When a male coworker entered the space, Elmira displayed signs of discomfort, including growling and lunging. The handler intervened immediately, and once the individual exited the area, Elmira was able to settle and return to a calm state. In a follow-up interaction, Elmira showed similar initial discomfort upon re-entry; however, with appropriate leash handling and correction, she responded more quickly and was able to recover, though she remained cautious.
These interactions suggest that Elmira may benefit from continued guidance and training around certain introductions, particularly in more confined or controlled environments. With proper leadership, structure, and ongoing training, she shows
strong potential to continue improving her confidence and responses in these situations.
Overall, Elmira has consistently presented as sweet, social, and affectionate with staff at Smart Paws Resort and Training. It is important to note that this assessment is based on a kennel setting, and as with many dogs, her behavior and confidence may continue to develop in a home environment where she can benefit from consistency, stability, and one-on-one attention. Elmira shows strong potential for a successful placement and would likely thrive in a patient, knowledgeable home committed to providing leadership, training, and time to build trust.
