My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Oreo! 🐾

Oreo is an 11-month-old terrier mix bursting with energy and personality. This playful boy lives for fun and is always ready to turn anything into a game. Toys are his absolute favorite, and if there’s something to chase, toss, or tug, Oreo is all in!

With his youthful enthusiasm and love for play, Oreo would thrive in a home that enjoys staying active and engaging in lots of interactive fun. Whether it’s toy time, playtime, or just goofing around, Oreo brings excitement and joy wherever he goes.

Oreo is neutered and up to date on all core vaccinations and monthly preventatives, so he’s ready to head straight into his forever home. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion who will keep you smiling and moving, Oreo might be your perfect match.

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
