Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Opal is a one-year-old cat with a gentle personality, a curious nature, and beautiful green-blue eyes. She may be described as “very ordinary,” but that’s part of her charm—she’s an easygoing, lovable cat who would fit well into many different homes. Opal enjoys exploring her surroundings, watching what’s going on around her, and investigating new sights and sounds. Her curiosity keeps her entertained, but she also appreciates quiet moments to relax and feel comfortable nearby.
Opal is spayed and fully up to date on her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives, so she is healthy and ready for her next home. She has a calm, pleasant presence and would make a great companion for someone looking for a cat who is not overly demanding but still engaging and affectionate in her own way. With a little time and patience, Opal is sure to settle in and become a loyal, loving part of the family.
If you would like more information about Opal or are interested in meeting her, please call 740-314-5583. Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
