Duke is a 4-year-old Husky who first came to ACCT Philly as a stray in January 2022 and quickly reclaimed by his owner. Duke was later surrendered to the shelter in December 2025 when his owner could no longer care for him due to serious health challenges.
Duke is a classic husky personality — intelligent, social, affectionate, and full of enthusiasm for life. He loves attention from people and happily leans in for pets, belly rubs, and affection. In the shelter, Duke has shown himself to be very friendly and engaging with handlers, taking treats gently and allowing all handling. He is easy to leash, walks reasonably well (with some pulling), and enjoys exploring new environments. Duke has demonstrated loose, wiggly body language when meeting other dogs and is considered dog social, though he can be a bit over-the-top with excitement at first. He is food motivated, eager to interact, and benefits from a calm, “less is more” approach when he’s feeling nervous in new situations. Overall, Duke is a loving, people-oriented dog who will thrive with structure, regular exercise, and continued positive engagement.

Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears forward and tail mid wagging. Took a treat gently through the bars.
Leash Skills: Easy to leash and mildly pulled on the leash.
Sociability: Very social! Leaned into all handling even laid down and let me give some belly rubs.
Play: Was not interested in the toys but was bouncing around the eval room.
Dog Interaction: When outside he saw multiple dogs he became excited, doing some husky vocalization and had a loose body. Then met Tilly Holly on the leash in the eval room, he remained loose and wiggly but a little over the top meeting her.
Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel. No issues unleashing

Duke being a husky is very warm and friendly. He loves attention from people whether that rubbing him or playing with him. He is very obedient and respectful. Obi and Coco are alot a like. Considering they are guard dogs they like to sniff and feel you out before they go soft on you. They too love attention and treats.
What are the best things about your animal?
All three of the dogs have their own personalities but the most precious thing about thing about them would be how they are connected with those around them. They are all very loving when you hurt they hurt and they just want to cheer you up instantly. They have a basic understanding of protecting you but without being aggressive. Duke is a protector as well but in his own way, he likes affection from whoever is giving it.

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.
