My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

💔🐾 Meet Carino 🐾💔
(Yes… my name means “sweetheart,” and I promise I live up to it.) 🤍

Hi friends, I’m Carino — a gentle little soul with a big heart that’s learning how to feel safe again. My dad and I lost everything when our beloved owner suddenly passed away. One day we had a home… and the next, we had nowhere to go. Through no fault of our own, our whole world changed. 😭💔

But here’s the hopeful part… ✨
Thanks to rescue and an amazing foster family, I’ve been wrapped in love, care, and patience. I’m fully vetted, learning routines, and discovering that life can be kind again. Now I’m ready for my forever chapter — maybe with you? 🏡💕

🐶 My dad and I can be adopted together, but we don’t have to be. I would love the chance to blossom in my own. I would do best with a gentle companion and a patient, loving family who understands that trust takes time — but oh, is it worth it. 🌱

🐾 Carino at a Glance 🤍
• 🐕 1-year-old neutered male Shih Tzu mix
• ⚖️ ~13 lbs of shy sweetness
• 🏠 Crate trained | Pee pad trained (still mastering house training!)
• 🎾 LOVES toys & playing fetch
• 💕 Shy at first, but incredibly sweet and affectionate once I warm up
• 🐾 Good with small dogs (big dogs are scary 😬)
• 🐱 Unsure about cats
• 🌈 Learning to trust men with help from my foster family

I may be a little timid at first, but once I know I’m safe, I’ll love you with my whole heart. If you’re looking for a dog who will blossom because of your kindness — that’s me. 🌸

More about this shelter

Hello! Thanks for checking us out. We are a 501-c3 non profit rescue and rehab service in Tucson, AZ

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs from the streets of Mexico in cooperation with other animal rescue organizations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Our shelter in Hermosillo, Sonora, Vidas Con Causa, currently has over 150 dogs. There, we provide medical care and a loving place for them to heal before coming to the US, then we foster and work on finding the perfect fit for adoption. You can also visit the available dogs at the rescue in Mexico. Our rescue partners spend a lot of time getting to know the dogs and we know MOST of their
perks and quirks!

We help special needs dogs, the amputees, the pregnant Pitties, the MexiMutts, those from small independent shelters who don't get much notice, the cancer patients. We provide round-the-clock care until these dogs are ready for rehoming.
