My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Steven & Van — a perfectly balanced bonded pair looking for their forever home!

Steven and Van are a dynamic duo who truly bring out the best in each other. Steven is the shy one with the short tail and unforgettable little “turkey-butt” strut. He prefers to take things slow and observe before jumping in, but every day he grows braver and more confident. Once he trusts you, he’s all in for pets, playtime, and cozy naps—especially if Van is nearby. Steven learns how to “cat” by watching his buddy, and their bond is heart-melting to witness. Because of his special-shaped bum, Steven occasionally needs a little help staying clean after the litter box, so his forever family should be comfortable with light grooming now and then.

Van is the opposite energy—in the best way. This gorgeous gray boy is a full-on Velcro cat who believes personal space is optional. He communicates in head bumps, squeaky chatter, and nonstop cuddles. Stop petting too soon and he’ll gently tap your face as a reminder that your job isn’t finished yet. He may have the occasional sneezing fit, but nothing slows down his dedication to affection. Van is happiest curled up on your lap (especially while you work) and soaking up all the love he can get.

Together, they have a lovely routine. Mornings mean enthusiastic breakfast anticipation, afternoons are for treats and sunbathing in their favorite spots, and evenings bring playful zoomies—running stairs, climbing the cat tree, and chasing the laser while you relax. On weekends, they’re happiest cuddled together on the couch while you watch TV. They do great entertaining themselves during the workday, spending most of it napping, and are always happy to greet you when you get home.

If Steven and Van could plan their perfect day, it would include warm sun naps, Churu treats, climbing to the highest possible perch, and lots of cuddling—with each other and with you.

Adopting Steven & Van means welcoming one gentle learner and one devoted snuggle bug into your life. Double the personalities, double the laughs, and double the love—you won’t regret it.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
