Florence | 2-year-old Wirehaired Fox Terrier Mix | Tiny body, thoughtful heart
Florence is a 2-year-old wirehaired Fox Terrier mix weighing just 13 pounds, with a soft fawn-and-cream coat and an equally soft soul once she feels safe. She is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves short walks, playtime with toys, and then curling up on the couch for a well-earned nap. Florence has a medium energy level and is happiest with a balance of light activity and plenty of downtime. She walks nicely on leash, though she can be a bit cautious around new people and prefers to keep her distance until she feels comfortable.
Florence is still working on house training and is learning that potty time only happens outside. She will pace when she needs to go out and benefits from a consistent routine and patient guidance. She is crate trained and sleeps through the night in her kennel, though she may whine briefly before settling. When left alone crated with another dog in the home, she does well after an initial adjustment period. Structure and boundaries have been going well for her, and she continues to make steady progress.
Florence does well with other dogs after slow, thoughtful introductions. She had some initial reactions when she first arrived in her foster home, but once she settled in, she began interacting positively with resident dogs. She has not been tested with cats. While she has not spent time around children, Florence would not be a good fit for a home with young kids. When she feels stressed or unsure, she may growl or snap, and she did nip during her first few days in foster care. With time and stability, those behaviors have resolved, but her future home should be adult-only or possibly with teenagers who understand dog boundaries.
Florence is motivated by love and affection, with treats as a bonus. She enjoys chewing on ropes and hard bones, likes going for walks, and is not a fan of car rides. One of her most endearing quirks is gathering toys from around the house and piling them neatly into her bed. She also loves to rest her head on you, offer her paw for attention, and roll over for belly rubs once trust is established.
Florence’s ideal home is one with a patient, attentive adopter who understands that she needs reassurance and time to adjust to new environments. She could thrive in a house or apartment and does not require a yard as long as she gets daily walks and plenty of interaction. With the right person and a calm, understanding environment, Florence will continue to blossom into the loving, snuggly companion she is meant to be.
