My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ready to hop into your heart and home is this handsome boy named Oswald! With his luscious long fur and adorable floppy ears, what more is there to love?! He is about 6 months old and weighs about # pounds.

Most rabbits tend to be a bit shy until they get to know you. Rabbits are known to play tricks on each other and their humans! A binky is a large jump and twist. It’s literally a bunny’s happy dance and sometimes will occur when a rabbit runs laps around a room - a behavior that many call “zoomies”. When rabbits display these behaviors, they`re showing us that they are full of energy, happy and excited.

House rabbits can live 6-10+ years with proper care and diet. They do require specialty veterinary care if they get sick. House rabbits love to explore their surroundings. They need a spacious x-pen area to live in and 3+ hours of daily exercise. The house rabbit’s diet consists of 80% timothy hay, 1/4 cup rabbit pellets, 1 cup green veggies and ample fresh water.

Before you adopt, learn all about house rabbits by visiting http://bit.ly/1yfjBLL & http://rabbit.org/living with-a-house-rabbit-2/ and then speak with an adoption counselor or a shelter bunny volunteer.

Oswald’s adoption fee is $40.

Additional adoption info

If you have made the careful decision to bring a companion animal into your life, chances are that SFAS&HS has a dog, cat, kitten, puppy, ferret, rabbit, guinea pig, or other fuzzy critter that will match your home and lifestyle.

Matchmaking is an important part of our adoption process, and we pride ourselves on helping hopeful animal lovers find a companion that will fit their lifestyle. Think about how much time you have to spend with a new animal. Think about the time involved: a healthy puppy can live for 15 to 20 years! Remember that settling in a new four-legged family member can take some time and adjustment. Bear in mind that just like us, your companion animal will need food and supplies and have to visit a doctor from time to time.

We invite you to visit our animals in the shelter, at our satellite adoption facility inside PetsMart (3561 Zafarano Drive) or online.Once you have an idea what you’re looking for, one of our adoption counselors will visit with you and share some ideas about which of our residents would be best suited to you.

All animals are spayed or neutered before leaving and receive the required age-appropriate vaccines. The required licenses for city and county residents are available at the shelter as you adopt!

Adoption is a partnership between the adopter, the shelter and the animal. We are committed to making that partnership work for everyone.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society is the largest animal shelter and care facility in northern New Mexico. More than 6,000 lost, stray, abandoned or injured animals come through our doors each year. As a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we receive nearly all of our funding through private donors in our community and beyond. SFAS&HS contracts with the city and county of Santa Fe to care for homeless and stray animals, as well as those brought through our front doors.

We work to reunite people with their lost animal companions, and re-home those animals that have gone unclaimed into new homes through our adoption program. Low- and no-cost spay/neuter programs address the overpopulation problems that our community faces. Humane education programs in our local schools teach children to respect and care for all living creatures. Partnered with our community, we work for change in the lives of our companion animals and to end the suffering of all animals.
