My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The senior spotlight is shining bright on the one and only •Donna•.

Donna is a sweet senior Doberman mix whose gentle soul and joyful spirit shine through the moment you meet her. Though her face shows her age, her heart is full of love and excitement for life.

Her journey hasn’t been an easy one. Donna was once found tied to a tree, later adopted into a loving home, and then heartbreakingly returned to rescue after her owner passed away. Despite all she has been through, Donna remains affectionate, trusting, and hopeful. She is now searching for what she deserves most—a peaceful, loving home where she can finally stay forever.

Donna is wonderful with people of all ages (including young children) and has a special way of leaning in close for hugs, as if she knows exactly when you need one. She’s a quiet companion who isn’t much of a barker and has excellent house manners. She politely circles by the door when she needs to go outside, has no interest in climbing on furniture, and settles easily into her crate when left alone.

Walks are one of Donna’s favorite activities. She starts out excited and may pull a bit, but she responds very well to gentle corrections and quickly finds her rhythm. She’s eager to explore the world, happy just to be included.

Donna would do best in a cat-free home, as she’s a little too curious about them. While she shows strong interest in other dogs and may stop to watch them on walks, she doesn’t bark or growl. For now, she would thrive as the only dog in the home, with the potential to learn dog companionship in the future with guidance and training.

Through every chapter of her life, Donna has held onto her love for people and her appreciation for each day. She’s ready to spend her golden years offering loyalty, affection, and quiet companionship to the family who will give her the forever home she’s been waiting for. If that family could be yours, please fill out a no-obligation application today!

More about this rescue

We are in need of Foster Homes for our homeless animals!!! Can you help?

What is a Foster Home?
A foster home takes in one of our homeless animals rather than boarding them at the kennel and cares for it until we find a permanent loving home. Almost Home Foundation pays for the all animal's food and medical expenses. The foster home learns the animal's temperament and behaviors. The foster home learns if they get along with other animals. The foster home provides insights on the animals that helps Almost Home Foundation look for the right home for the animal.

Please help!! Just fill out this form and we will contact you or call 630-582-3738 and leave a message letting us know that you are interested in fostering!

We are an all-volunteer, registered, not-for-profit 501c3 animal rescue group. Our mission is to save adoptable dogs and cats from being destroyed by finding permanent, loving homes. For details, visit us online at www.almosthomefoundation.org.

Almost Home Foundation is always looking for volunteers to handle dogs at adoption shows, set up adoption shows, write for the newsletter, photograph events, or foster animals. For a list of opportunities, visit online at www.volunteermatch.org
or www.almosthomefoundation.org.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are a Rescue not a Shelter. This simply means we do not own a building where we house animals. We look for loving foster homes that will give temporary care and love on the animal’s journey to a permanent, loving home. When a foster home is not available, we will board the animal at a boarding kennel.

Our 5-year goal is to have a shelter. This is an aggressive goal that will take many donations and memberships. We will strive for this goal with a great team of volunteers and help from people like you! Please become a member, become a sponsor or make a donation.

Our animals are found strayed and brought in from the police. After being held for 7 days, we evaluate the temperament of the animal and determine if the animal is suitable to be a pet. On rare occasion, we will also rescue animals that are in desperate situations where the rescue makes the difference between life and death. We do not accept Owner Give-ups.
