My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Horatio is a sweet, curious and playful dog. He is for sure a beagle as his nose is constantly on the go. Horatio has done very well with being potty trained and does  well on walks with his harness and leash. He will let us know if he has to go outside and scratch on the door. Horatio is quiet and does not bark unless he sees a rabbit outside or when he initially goes in his crate for bedtime or when we leave the house. But he is getting much better with his crate and his crying lessens each day/night.  We believe he may have some separation anxiety. Horatio loves to be your shadow, he will be by your side at all times.  Horatio is amazing with our current dog and any dog he meets on his walks. We have not had any interaction with cats. He also has not had interaction with kids, but don’t foresee them being an issue.  He will need some basic training such as learning to not jump up on counters, but he is very receptive to learning if there’s treats involved. If you’re looking for a mixture of an active dog but also a napping buddy, Horatio is your guy!

Horatio is heartworm positive.  Horatio can be adopted during his treatment if the adopter is local to Tampa Bay.

Steps to adopt a beagle from Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue:

Read about the beagle breed to be sure this dog matches your lifestyle and personality. While we think beagles are terrific dogs, we know that no one breed is perfect for every single family. Many people adopt or purchase beagles because they are small and friendly without ever finding out more about the breed. We encourage anyone who is considering adding a beagle to their family to learn all they can about these stubborn, playful hounds!
Submit an on-line application. Just fill out the application on-line and we will automatically be notified. If you need to, you can save your application and finish it later.
Choose to receive information from us. In your settings, you have the option to receive emails and regular mail from us. Click these options to receive updates about dogs available for adoption and upcoming events such as adoption days, special activities and fundraising events.
Approval of the application is based on phone interviews and a reference & Vet check. It usually takes us 7-10 days to approve an application, but when we are very busy, it can take a little longer. Thanks for your patience!
Visit with the beagles! After you are approved, you can visit with the dogs at adoption events, usually scheduled once or twice a month. Adoption events are open to the public, but only preapproved applicants will be able to adopt the same day. (We recommend submitting the application at least 10 days in advance to ensure it is approved in time.)
