Carter is still available for adoption, and his adoption fee is $300. He’s about 10 months old and weighs 11.5 lbs. This sweet boy was originally adopted from us as a tiny 6‑week‑old pup, but he was returned simply because his previous owner didn’t have enough time for him.
Carter can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he feels safe and comfortable, he blossoms into the sweetest little guy. He does wonderfully with other dogs and absolutely loves going outside for playtime and exploring.
Since we don’t observe our animals in home settings, we can’t guarantee whether they’re housebroken. Every pet adjusts at their own pace, and some may need a bit of patience and consistency as they settle into a new routine.
Upon intake, every animal receives:
Spay/neuter surgery
Microchipping
Updated vaccinations
Blood and fecal testing (with treatment if needed)
Flea/tick and heartworm prevention
A free wellness exam within 7–10 days of adoption
To adopt, you must:
Be at least 21 years old
Live within 1 hour of our facility
If you’d like to meet Carter or have any questions, I’d be happy to help you set up a visit. He’s ready to find the loving forever family he truly deserves.
Would you like to explore meeting Carter in person or learning more about his personality and needs?

Our adoption fees for adult dogs start at $300, though could be higher based on adoption demand and medical costs. Our adoption fees for puppies start at $400, though could be higher based on adoption demand, and includes 4 veterinary visits to update vaccines and perform spay/neuter. Some dogs have higher adoption fees because of adoption interest
Our shelter mission focuses on medical and behavioral rehab cases, so our adoption fees never cover our costs.
We have an adoption application for dogs and cats and will check a vet reference as well as information regarding your home situation and pet compatibility.
Some adoptions will require a home visit.

More about this shelter
Animal Hope opened its doors as a standalone shelter on February 1, 2015.
Prior to that, Animal Hope operated as a small rescue at Animal Hospital Southwest. As the municipal veterinarian for the city of Fort Worth, Animal Hospital Southwest frequently pulled difficult cases that the city was not equipped to treat and rehabilitate due to budgetary and time constraints.
From this organization was born the Animal Hope shelter, a rescue focusing on rehabilitation and “second chance” adoptions.
