Scratchy is a beautiful one-year old female American Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 25, 2025 along with her handsome male companion (Itchy) after they were found on Pike Street in Marietta Ohio.
Scratchy has a shiny black coat with a large white bib on her chest, black/white toes on her front paws, a long tail and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, a chubby muzzle, and large floppy ears.
This little sweetheart was understandably a bit puzzled when HSOV Volunteer Miley Kiggans walked Scratchy from her floor crate into the lobby of our shelter where she was surprised by the paparazzi on December 27th .. But Scratchy quickly realized this glamour photo opportunity was a good thing! Scratchy posed beautifully for pictures with Miley by her side, and things even got better when HSOV Kennel Tech Avah Day offered Scratchy 'good girl' treats as a reward for gazing at the camera lens.
Scratchy weighs 56 lbs but isn't a very large girl when you meet her in person.
We took a few photos of Scratchy on December 29th wearing a bright plaid jacket in her floor crate when the temperatures had dropped a whopping 40 degrees!
In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Scratchy and Itchy were held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Surprisingly (as of December 31st) nobody had called or came looking for them.
