My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toby is 5 yrs 8mos old and weighs 72 lbs.

Say hello to Toby, a confident and cheerful greyhound with a big heart and an even bigger appetite for life (and snacks!). This super happy guy is always up for an adventure — whether he’s zooming around the yard or exploring new places, Toby takes it all in stride with a wagging tail and a big smile. Toby loves people and thrives on affection. He’s always ready for a cuddle, a scratch behind the ears, or just hanging out by your side. His strong food motivation makes him incredibly trainable — he’ll do just about anything for a treat, which makes teaching him new tricks both fun and easy. While Toby is full of love for people, he’s not the biggest fan of cats, so a feline-free home would be best for this handsome boy. With his zest for life, affectionate nature, and smart, eager-to-please personality, Toby would be a fantastic companion for someone looking for a fun-loving and loyal best friend. Toby is ready to join your home and fill your heart!

Additional adoption info

In New South Wales, the greyhounds live with the owners, not in a crate at the track. With input of the dog's owner and evaluations done by professional trainers, we know a lot about the greyhound. The dogs are assessed, tested for prey drive (good with cats? good with small dogs?) and if the owner had children, the ages of the children are provided.

The dogs are vaccinated, desexed and evaluated by a vet at intake and again days before flight. The Aussie Mates in the States team completes the necessary import paperwork, coordinates flight information and make sure the dogs are cared for every step of the way of their journey.

More about this rescue

Since Mach 2024, we have welcomed over 160 greyhounds from the Aussie Mates in the States rehoming program located in Sydney, New South Wales.

Greyhound Welfare is first and foremost when racing in New South Wales. In fact, the organization funds a domestic and international rehoming program to assist with finding retired racers a forever home.

Combine with our many years of experience with placing US greyhound and the care and commitment of the Aussie's Mates in the State team, you'll adopt a wonderful greyhound with ongoing support.
