My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fozzy Bear is a 2.5-year-old, 48 lb Chow mix ready for a family who understands the beauty of a gentle, loyal heart.

Fozzy is a loving boy who can be a little hesitant with new things at first — but he adjusts quickly once he knows he’s safe. He’s been wonderful with other dogs, happily coexisting and even playing with younger pups as he continues to learn how to fully enjoy toys and playtime. He does appreciate one small boundary: he prefers other dogs to stay out of his food bowl.

In true Chow fashion, Fozzy forms deep bonds with his people. He’s a calm, steady companion as long as he knows where his humans are. If he can see you but can’t reach you, he may whine or bark — not out of mischief, but because he feels safest close to his people. Because of this, he’d likely thrive in a home with a canine sibling or humans who are home often, so he doesn’t feel lonely.

Fozzy has been great with everyone he’s met and did well at the vet when his people were with him.

What Fozzy needs:
- A patient, loving home
- Gentle reassurance and consistency
- A family who values loyalty and connection

**Fozzy Bear is being fostered in Live Oak, Florida. Paid transport can be arranged. Transport costs range from $200-400.**

More about this rescue

Houston Chow Chow Connection is a collaborative of dog lovers and rescuers that dedicate their time, efforts and talents toward helping rescue Chow Chows in need. We are an entirely volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization with no administrative costs.

Our rescue traces its origin back several years to the work of Dianne Watson. Dianne dedicated much of her young life to saving homeless Chows in North and West Texas. In her memory, Houston Chow Chow Connection continues her passion of uniting Chow Chows with perfect forever families.

HCCC began rescuing in 2013 and re-homed over 400 dogs since inception, including over 125 in 2017! Our dogs found homes on the East and West coasts of the U.S. and have traveled north and south! As we continue to rescue and re-home more and more Chows, our costs grow. As you may know, rescuing animals takes money. Not only is there the typical care and upkeep (including food and general veterinary care), some of our rescues need specialized treatments.

At HCCC we don’t pick and choose the dogs we rescue – they pick us. While the majority of our rescues are healthy, we never turn our backs on the homeless, Chows with physical issues, or disabilities. Some of our incoming babies have suffered long-term and extensive neglect. New HCCC dogs may require spay/neuter, shaving due to extensive matting, entropion and/or hip replacement surgeries, treatment of skin problems and a variety of other issues.
