Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ruckus is searching for the love of his life! This handsome little heartbreaker is one of four pups that came into care underweight, neglected, and poorly socialized. He had little supervision or guidance to teach him about the world around him. Since he was never really sure when his next meal would come, Ruckus tried to eat lots of stuff, including things that aren't food like cloth and rope. Since he's been in foster care he's learned about toys, couches, cuddles, beds, and his absolute favorite - YUMMY FOOD!! Ruckus went from hiding in the corner to running zoomies, playing ball, and snoring with his blankie during nap time. His favorite pastimes are eating, snuggling with his foster mom, and playing with his Weimaraner foster brother. Ruckus still worries about going hungry and hasn't been able to break the habit of swallowing things that aren't for eating, so he needs a lot of supervision to make sure he doesn't eat something that could hurt him. According to his foster mom, Ruckus will eat anything he finds - from sticks, dirt, and rocks to toys, bobby pins, socks, plastic, and just about everything else. He will gladly give up whatever he finds for a treat and has become quite the little trader! Ruckus loves people but he can be a little timid at first. Once he warms up he will be your constant companion. He is crate trained, rides well in the car, and is fully potty trained. He knows basic commands and is a super fast learner. In the few short weeks he's been in foster care Ruckus has made tremendous progress and he is gaining more confidence every day. He is a joyful, silly, happy and loving goofball! Ruckus needs a family that will set clear boundaries and will look out for him as he continues to figure out how to be a dog!

Home check will be scheduled after personal and vet references are completed. This may take a month or more to complete.
3.
Interview
Adoption Coordinator will contact acceptable applicants for a phone interview
4.
Approve Application
Approved adopters are matched to a Great Dane. This step often takes some time to find a great match.
Additional adoption info
The Adoption Application must be submitted electronically. An application fee of $25 USD is required to begin processing your application.
Fees may be submitted via Paypal to: greatdanerescuemi@gmail.com
You may also send a check to:
GDRI
P.O. Box 5543
Plymouth, MI 48170.
Applications will not be processed until the fee is paid. This amount helps offset the expense of long distance calls made to both process your application and discuss available Danes for adoption.
The next step will be checking your references and arranging your home visit. Once your references are checked, our Adoption Coordinator will give you a call to conduct an interview. We will then try to match you up with the right dog. This includes giving you the name/number of the foster home so you can talk with them directly and make arrangements to see your potential new friend.
Adoption Fees
0-6 months $550
6-12 months $500
1-4 years $400
5-7 years $300
8+ years $200
Amounts listed include the $25 application fee.
Adoption fees are inclusive of all medical care, and go directly to our Rescue Fund to help pay the health care and rescue expenses. We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (#38-3265880) and your adoption fee may be tax-deductible - please check with your accountant.
Please note that we only place Danes in homes with children over the age of 8 due to the sometimes-unknown history of a dog. For people with children under 8, please contact us for a breeder referral. If you find a dog somewhere else, PLEASE let us know so we can conserve our volunteers' time and funds.
