My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Raya!
Cute, quirky, and just a little goofy - Raya is a sweet 4 YO 13lb Shih-chon whose gentle personality slowly shines brighter as she feels safe.

That said, if you’re looking for a cuddle bug who instantly wants to be your shadow and very best friend from day one, Raya is not that dog.

Raya came from a commercial breeding situation and is still learning what it means to be a pet. She needs patience, consistency, and love - and in return, Raya will continue to make meaningful progress, just as she has in her foster home.

During the workday, Raya tends to keep to herself and is content doing her own thing. In the evenings, she enjoys being on the couch with her foster family. She may need a little coaxing to get there, but once she’s settled, Raya is happy to relax, lay with you and be pet.

Raya loves interacting with playful dogs and truly thrives around them. An ideal home would have another confident, friendly dog who can help build Raya’s confidence and show her the ropes of the good life. A canine companion is strongly preferred.

Raya sleeps in a crate at night and does well with a predictable, structured routine. Housebreaking is still a work in progress, and Raya is continuing to gain confidence on leash.

Because Raya has lingering fears from her past life, a secure, fenced-in yard is non-negotiable for her safety. Due to her sensitivity, Raya requires a home with no children under 12.

With time, attention, love, and patience, Raya will continue her journey into becoming a well-loved family member. She’s not an instant love bug but she is deeply rewarding for the right home and deserves to be in an environment where she will thrive.

Raya is up to date on vaccines, Spayed, Microchipped, Dental completed (bad teeth removed)

Raya is sweet, endearing, and learning every day what it means to feel safe. If you believe in patience, kindness, and letting a dog move at her own pace, Raya may be the perfect fit for you. Please apply only on our website, zoeshouserescue.com.

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
