From the Foster Family: On a snowy December morning in the countryside, a young boy heard tiny meows coming from a shed. Inside was a very small kitten—alone, covered in frozen dirt, and already radiating strong opinions. She was brought indoors, warmed up, bathed, and immediately began what can only be described as her rise to power.
Some believe Gertrude may be a Maine Coon or a Norwegian Forest Cat. A few have wondered if she is a descendant of Gremlins. Others suspect she is the Icelandic Yule Cat herself, here to judge your winter preparedness and household efficiency. While we do not perform DNA testing on our foster cats, we can confidently confirm that Gertie is a magical creature who is both serious and deeply opinionated.
Gertie is quite affectionate and enjoys attention, but she also has a mischievous streak. She may stalk you and attack your feet as you walk by—not out of malice, but as a form of play… or possibly reflex testing. Because of her enthusiastic and physical play style, we think she would do best in a home without small children who may not yet understand or appreciate her surprise ambushes.
Naturally bossy, Gertie responds best to being addressed as “ma’am” and phrases such as, “I’m right on top of that, Gertie!” She takes mealtime very seriously and will growl if people or other animals interrupt her while she eats. We are working on this behavior, but she remains firmly committed to food security.
In addition to supervising humans, Gertie is locked in an ongoing and very personal battle with the robot vacuum. She does not trust it. She does not forgive it. She will stalk it, swat at it, and bravely stand her ground as it roams the house, because someone has to keep modern technology in check.
Gertie enjoys being brushed and will need a family prepared to keep up with regular grooming to maintain her glorious long fur and prevent matting. In return, she offers affection, entertainment, and the undeniable honor of sharing your home with what is very likely a winter legend in kitten form.
If you’re looking for a companion who will love you fiercely, supervise you closely, and possibly haunt your hallway like a festive cryptid, Gertrude may be your girl.
Gertie lives in a foster home located in Mankato, MN and will be ready to move to her forever home after January 15th.
