Gabby is a beautiful African Grey with a gentle soul and a thoughtful, observant personality. He is still settling into foster care and taking his time learning that the world can be a safe and predictable place, but he is already showing wonderful signs of curiosity, connection, and trust.
Gabby is a calm and reserved bird who enjoys watching what’s going on around him. He is very interested in people and will often greet someone entering the room with his signature high-pitched whistle. While he is not overly vocal, he enjoys making soft trills and whistles, and he has begun experimenting with speech patterns and intonation. He may even be working toward a few words of his own.
He enjoys interaction and seeks out gentle attention, often bending his head for scritches. He is not cage-territorial and is generally cooperative, though he prefers a slower, more thoughtful approach when stepping up. He will step up reliably with a towel and is beginning to do so directly onto hands as his confidence grows. Gabby does best with calm, predictable handling and a person who understands that trust builds over time.
Gabby is still gaining strength and confidence with movement and flight. He does not fly well at this time and tends to coast gently downward rather than fully take off. He is working on building strength and coordination through short, safe movements and supported practice. He enjoys being out of his cage and often perches quietly, observing his surroundings and taking everything in.
He is very food-motivated and especially attached to the seed mix he came to STAR on. Dietary transitions are being approached slowly and thoughtfully, and he is gradually being introduced to healthier options at a pace that keeps him comfortable and stress-free in partnership with our partner vet. He enjoys chewing cardboard and is beginning to show interest in simple enrichment items.
Gabby has a sweet, mellow demeanor and does not appear to be fearful of people. He would do best in a home with someone who understands an African Grey's intelligence, emotional depth, and need for patient socialization. He would thrive in a calm, structured environment with consistent interaction and gentle encouragement.
