Pumpkin is a sweet, shy 1-year-old Shiba Inu who came to us after being found outside and is still learning the comforts of indoor life. He’s a gentle soul who will need a very patient, experienced home—ideally one familiar with Shibas—that can offer a calm, predictable environment.
Pumpkin would do best in a quiet home without small children, where he can build confidence at his own pace. He prefers peaceful settings and slow, gentle introductions and is making steady progress in his foster home. While his experience with cats or small animals is unknown, Pumpkin would love a home with friendly, confident canine companions who can help show him the joys of being a house dog.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs).
